OK, I’m a bit retarded I’m a writer (mostly ghostwriting, mostly medical/health related), and I constantly refer to The Chicago Manual of Style and various other references And although I had heard of “Strunk and White” for decades, I had never seen it un

It’s always the ‘go to’ material when looking for the correct grammar, punctuation, and usage and so much more! I never realize how flawed my command of American English is until I try to write a formal essay Sometimes I freeze I have the best education for grammar and spelling from a strict Order of Catholic sisters Still I lean on Shrunk/White It’s my favorite writing security blanket In conjunction with William Zissner’s ‘On Writing Well’ I might be ready to write that great American Novel!

What a handy thing to have and you can’t beat free! I was stunned when I saw it This book beats all the info books out there It just starts telling you what is the correct structure and keeps going! Zero fluff and no current fad ideas, you make the decision the direction your story will take When you need to fix a sentence structure problem, you want an answer right then not a lot of slogans and catch phrases

If a person wants to write, whether professionally or the next term paper, this classic is an essential book Some say it is THE essential book The pages of my old paperback are yellowed and dogeared, so the Kindle edition takes its rightful place in my digital library

This is one of those resources that every writer should have around While there are newer references and guides, this one is just so amazingly clear You will dog-ear it and make all kinds of marks in it, then you will want to get another copy My paper copy is so beat up that some of the pages are falling out! This makes a wonderful gift for the young or aspiring writer or the newly employed person who will need to do any type of written communications It deserves 10 stars

William Strunk’s original guide, before the modern updates by E B White, provides the same solid advice and guidelines to be found in the latest editions However, this older version, now out of copyright, is free for download and perusal The short passages and direct instruction contain all the aspects of a modern grammar textbook without any of the unnecessary fluff with which we regularly associate such texts I recommend this to anyone interested in cleaning up his or her writing skills
